STAR PRINTED JEANS

Materials needed:

  • A pair of old denim jeans
  • DYLON Machine Dye Pod in Blue Jeans or any colour of your choice
  • Iron, fabric glue or glue gun
  • Star appliques

Instructions:

1. Turn the damp and washed pair of jeans inside out and place it in the washing machine.

2. Pop the unwrapped and opened Blue Jeans DYLON Machine Dye Pod directly on top of the garment. Set the machine to a full 40° C cycle. Once this is complete, leave the item in the machine and  run another cycle with detergent. The dye is suitable for garments made of cotton, linen and viscose. Mixes with synthetics will dye to lighter shades and pure synthetics will not dye.

3. Once the jeans have been dyed and removed from
the machine, run an empty cycle using detergent
to clean your machine.

4. Once the jeans are ready, leave them to dry away from
direct sunlight.

Always read full Dylon Machine Dyes Pod instructions on the pack before use.

5. If the stars are iron-on patches, place them on the back pocket of your jeans. Follow the instructions on the packet of the iron-ons for the settings of the iron and apply the patch. Make sure to use a sheet in between the stars and the iron to avoid damaging the sparkle. Alternatively, use fabric glue or a glue gun on the back of each star to apply it to the jeans.

FRINGE DENIM JACKET

Materials needed:

  • An old denim jacket
  • DYLON Machine Dye Pod in Blue Jeans or any colour of your choice
  • White fringe
  • Fabric glue or glue gun

Instructions:

1. Turn the damp and washed pair of denim jacket inside out and place it  in the washing machine.

2. Pop the unwrapped and opened Blue Jeans DYLON Machine Dye Pod directly on top of the garment. Set the machine to a full 40° C cycle. Once this is complete, leave the item in the machine and run another cycle with detergent.

3. Once the denim jacket has been dyed and removed from the machine, run an empty cycle using detergent to clean your machine.

4. Once the denim jacket is ready, leave it to dry away from direct sunlight.

5. Flip the jacket over so that the back is facing you.

6. Lay out your fringe and cut it to the size you desire. Cut it so that it’s able to cover the entire length of the yoke seam, which is the horizontal back seam. If you know you want a shorter fringe, go ahead and cut the piece shorter. Measure the fringe across the yoke seam.

7. Use fabric glue to attach the fringe as close as possible to the yoke seam. Add a second layer of fabric glue for maximum effect. Alternatively, use a glue gun for this process. Press firmly on the binding to secure the glue.

8. Allow the glue to dry for 24 hours.

9. If you want, you can also add shorter fringe down the sleeve
seams by following a similar process to the above.

SPARKLY BUTTON DOWN SHIRT

Materials needed:

  • Plain headband in a colour of your choice
  • Small star appliques
  • Clear thread
  • Needle
  • Scissors

Instructions:

  1. Using a picker, remove the buttons that you want to replace.
  2. Place the new button where the old button was. Often there might be small holes where the old button used to be so you can use this as a guideline.
  3. Thread the needle by holding the sharp side down and pulling the thread through the eye.
  4. Start sewing the sparkly button where the old button used to be using a needle and clear thread.
  5. Hold the button while sewing and when you bring the thread up through the button and fabric, ensure it’s taut.
  6. Mimic the sewing of the other buttons, but ensure that the sewing style you use such as parallel, cross-cross, etc. is consistent as this will make your new button look natural.
  7. For the final touches, use a glue gun to add a diamante decal to the end of each collar.
  8. Leave it to dry for 24 hours before wearing the revamped button down shirt.
