Water hardness, detergent dosage and washing machine - what is important? To dose the right amount of detergent, you should consider a few aspects: how hard the water is that is used in the wash cycle, how much laundry you are washing and how dirty it is. The following tips will help you dose your detergent correctly.
- Follow our recommendations: On every Dylon product you will find a dosage recommendation, differentiated by light, medium and heavy soiling. Sorting the laundry according to the degree of soiling is therefore an important step in correctly dosing the detergent. The dirtier the laundry, the more detergent you should use. Remember that depending on whether you are using gel or powder, different amounts of product are required. So always remember to check the respective product packaging to see how to adjust the dosage.
- Find out about the hardness of your water: Water hardness varies from region to region. To be able to dose your detergent correctly, you should ask your local water company about the hardness of your water. You can then simply adjust the detergent dosage according to the water hardness by following the instruction table on each Dylon product label.
- Consider the size of your washing machine: The dosage amounts on our packaging refer to a typical load of 2.5 kg of delicate clothing. We do not recommend a higher load for washing delicate clothing.
Small things can make a big difference! Almost 80 per cent of the energy consumption and carbon footprint of laundry detergents is caused by the use phase, i.e. the actual washing process at home. This is mainly due to the energy needed to heat the water in the washing machine. For this reason, we have constantly improved our detergent formulas over the years to ensure maximum washing performance even at low temperatures. You can wash your clothes at a lower temperature and get clean, great smelling clothes while saving energy and CO2. We recommend loading the washing machine as full as possible to avoid half-loaded washes.
Utilise the load size of 2.5 kg, which is specifically for delicate laundry, as much as possible. This not only helps to save energy, but also water.
