Are you already a professional when it comes to washing different textiles? Maybe you're often still annoyed when you take your favorite shirt out of the closet, although it's clean but pretty wrinkled? So that you can fold your laundry quickly and easily from now on, you will find the best tips and tricks here.
A few simple steps are often enough to fold laundry correctly and keep your closet tidy. If you want to make it really easy for yourself, fold your laundry using a folding board. This way, all items of clothing are the same size and can be stored neatly in the closet. Do you want to be able to do that without any aids? Then remember that folding laundry is easier if it has four corners. You can find detailed instructions for various items of clothing here.
For tops, it is enough to fold in the sleeves on both sides to create a square shape. The easiest way to do this is to place the top face down on a flat surface. Smooth it out once before folding. Fold the two sides with the sleeves towards the middle up to the neckline. Longer sleeves, for example of sweaters, can be placed crosswise or folded down. A hood can also simply be folded down before folding laundry. Finally, fold the bottom half of the shirt up to the collar.
Jeans, leggings, sports pants, tights and other items of this type of laundry can be easily folded if you place the trouser legs on top of each other. Depending on how much space your closet has, you can cut the pants in half by placing the bottom hem on the waistband. Or you can fold the pants twice, creating a shorter but taller stack. The advantage of jeans: Any wrinkles that may be present disappear quickly when worn. So it's not a problem if you're a little imprecise when folding it. In our instructions for washing jeans you will find additional tips for your favorite jeans. Special care is required when wearing suit trousers. If possible, orientate yourself on the folds that the trousers have. If you want to be on the safe side, hang the suit trousers on a special trouser hanger.
When folding skirts, it also helps to first shape them into a rectangular shape. Is the skirt long and does it get wider towards the bottom? Then fold both sides over to the middle. It is then best to divide the skirt into three folded sections. Fold the bottom third up, the top third down and the skirt is folded.
Washing underwear seems to be a science in itself: the items of laundry such as bras and panties that you change most often are often made from the most delicate fabrics. To ensure that nothing goes wrong when washing underwear, we have put together instructions for you here. At least you'll save time and effort after washing if you don't fold the underwear at all. Instead, simply collect the laundry items in baskets or cupboard drawers. To avoid damaging the cups of your bras, stack them loosely behind or on top of each other.
With brightly patterned socks, however, it's a bad idea if you throw them loosely together in a box. So put two matching socks on top of each other, fold them in half and put them inside each other.
Extra tip for folding laundry: Maybe you want to use the so-called parcel method for tops, trousers, briefs and socks? It works like this: Instead of folding the items of clothing in the middle, you fold the top third down and then the bottom third up. Now put the bottom piece into the neckline or waistband so that you get a compact package. This way, for example, you can store your favorite shirt upright in the drawer or stacked in the closet.
Items of laundry such as towels and bed linen are somewhat awkward to fold due to their size. However, they already have the optimal rectangular shape. Therefore, you simply fold these items of laundry in the middle until you get a flat package. Folding fitted sheets is more difficult because of their shape and elastic bands. First spread the sheet out generously so that you can sort the pages. Push the opposite corners together to form a small rectangle. Here too, you don't have to fold the fitted sheet so neatly. When you put it on, the wrinkles come out of the sheet on their own.
Extra tip for folding bed linen: Put the bed sheet and duvet cover neatly together, stack the two items of laundry on top of each other and push this stack into the pillowcase. This way you have the complete set together.
